Jorge is originally from Bogotá, Colombia. He has lived in the United States since he was 13. He has bachelor's degrees in economics and history from Duke University and a law degree from Yale. He lives with his wife, Tyler. They have three children.

Jorge used to be the executive director of Northwest Immigrants Rights Project, where he provided legal services for immigrants. He used to be an assistant director in the film industry.
