Michael earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Bringham Young University and his law degree from the University of Utah College of Law. He currently volunteers as a member of the budget committee and bond oversight committee of Scottsdale Unified School District. Norton is also the founder of For The Best Scottsdale, a political action committee. He lives in Scottsdale with his two daughters.
