Tom is originally from Crockett, Texas. He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University. He lives in Spring Valley Village. He is married to his wife, Marsha, with whom he has 3 children and 7 grandchildren. He is a teacher and deacon at Second Baptist Church in Houston.  

Tom works as a development officer at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and as a senior vice president at RPS Klotz Associates. He also worked as an engineer and owned and operated an engineering firm.
