Sandra Nurse

Sandra is a local business owner and environmental advocate. She is the founder of BK ROT, a composting service that employs young people of color. Before starting her business, she worked at the United Nations World Food Programme, where she focused on post-disaster food relief. She also built large-scale farms in NYCHA developments with Green City Force. Earlier in her career, she worked for the Department of Defense and spent many years as a carpenter and carpentry instructor.

Sandy is currently a member of the New York City Council, representing District 37. She was elected in 2021 and is serving her first term.
