Wil was born in Belize and grew up in Chicago. He got his degree in business management from Wilberforce University. James moved to Tyrone in 1999.

Wil owned a mortgage company called New Horizon in Fort Lauderdale. He is a coach with the youth baseball team, football team, and Chairman for Tyrone Planning Commission,
