Sam is originally from Dalton. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Harding University and a law degree from Tulane University. He attended Southeast Whitfield High School. He lives with his wife, Shauna, and their two daughters.

Sam Sanders is currently Vice-Chair of Dalton Public Schools' Board of Education. He was first elected in 2019 and has been in office for one term. He was president of the Dalton Education Foundation and a member of the Brookwood School Council.
