Al has lived in Powder Springs with his family for 41 years. He did culinary arts/chef training at J M Wright Regional Vocational Technical School.

Al serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Superior Landscaping Inc since 1982.

Mayor Al Thurman is currently serving as the Mayor of Powder Springs. He was first elected in 2015 and has been in office for two terms. He previously served as a Member of Powder Springs City Council, Ward 2, from 2002 to 2015.

Larry Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in aviation maintenance management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He also has an MBA degree in management information systems from Southern Polytechnic State University. He is a father of two children, and attends Elevate Christian Church.

Larry Thomas is an independent business owner. He works at Gilshot Genealogy Services, where he has been for 12 years. He also works as an independent contractor at Gilshot Enterprises Consulting Services, where he has been for 11 years. He previously served in the United States Army.

Larry Thomas's campaign for mayor is his first entry into politics.
