Thomas graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He is married to his wife, Lawrene, and together they are active in their community through organizations such as the Peoria Citizens' Academy of Police and Fire, the Peoria Leadership Institute, and the Arizona Pickleball Players League. He identifies as Christian.

Thomas is currently retired. He founded GetCollegeFunding, a non-profit organization aimed at providing debt-free college education, where he worked for 20 years until 2023. Previously he worked in the semiconductor industry, where he was an engineer for nearly 30 years.
