Richard was born and raised in Birmingham, England. He earned a degree in mathematics from the University of Liverpool, and later a master’s degree in control engineering. 

Richard is a former engineering manager with 30 years of experience at Honeywell, where he worked on various products for industrial control. After his corporate career, he became an entrepreneur and co-founded a wine distributorship called Orangewood Wines, which he ran for 20 years.
