Sharon is originally from Chicago, Illinois. She earned has a bachelor's degree in education with a major in psychology from Illinois State University and a master's degree in humanities from the University of Texas.

Sharon is a former special education teacher who has worked in several public schools, taught third grade at the Bernalillo Pueblo School in New Mexico, and served as an English instructor at Brookhaven College. She is also a former small business owner and a published author.
