Brannen has been under investigation by the state of Georgia for 20 months to investigate if he "was capable of performing his duties." This came following a former Pulaski County deputy successfully settled a bias suit appeal against Brannen for his firing, claiming it was racially motivated.

Terry is married to his wife, Allison. He is a member of Westview Baptist Church. He is also a member of The Lions Club and The Big Red Booster Club.
