Eric lives in Fulton County with his wife Julie and their two children. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and government from Morehouse College and a Juris Doctor from Mercer University Walter F George School of Law. He was born and raised in Atlanta. 

Before his role as superior court judge, Dunaway worked as deputy chief assistant district attorney for DeKalb County. He previously worked as assistant district attorney for Paulding County and Fulton County, after starting as an assistant solicitor for the City of Atlanta. 

Eric Dunaway has been a Superior Court Judge for Fulton County since 2017.

Serves as a Superior Court Judge for Fulton County, where he presides over cases involving misdemeanors, contract disputes, premises liability, and various other actions.

Worked as a Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney over the sexual assault and domestic violence unit. In this role, he drafted accusations and indictments, evaluated and researched potential defenses, negotiated pleas to dispose of cases, and dismissed cases not prosecutable.

- Georgia Superior Court Judges hear a wide range of criminal cases from petty theft and public drunkenness to murder. Some cases in front of the Georgia Superior Court involve the death penalty. 
- On the civil side, Superior Court Judges hear cases on divorce, titles to land, contract disputes, and premises liability. 
- Superior Court Judges are elected by judicial circuit. Each county surrounding Atlanta has its own judicial circuit, while rural judicial districts typically consist of multiple counties.
- Superior Court Judges are elected to four year terms. Elections are nonpartisan. The Governor can appoint Superior Court Judges when vacancies arise.
