Kimberly was born in Lexington, Kentucky. She has a bachelor's degree and a law degree from the University of Kentucky. She currently serves as the usher board president at Historic Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church.

Kimberly previously worked as a legal assistant to Lou Anna Red Corn and assistant commonwealth's attorney in the Fayette County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.
