Reggie earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth and a law degree from Harvard. He previously served on the boards of a local business group and community college. He lives in Lexington, where he attends St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church. He has 3 adult children with his late wife, Lynda.

Reggie is currently an associate professor of criminal justice at Kentucky State University. He was previously a lawyer for Kentucky State University from 1984 to 1995.
