James grew up in rural Monroe County and attended Western Kentucky University. He is married to TJ Comer and they have three children.

James Comer currently represents Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District in Congress. He was first elected in 2016 and is serving his fourth term. He currently serves as Chairman of the House Oversight Committee. He previously served six terms in the Kentucky House of Representatives and was elected as Kentucky’s Commissioner of Agriculture in 2011.
