Arthur Griffin, Jr. was born in Charlotte and grew up in the First Ward neighborhood, later moving to Fairview Homes. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of the State of New York and has been actively involved in church life, currently being a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church. 

Arthur worked as a Litigation Paralegal at Legal Services of Southern Piedmont for 20 years, where he represented low-income clients in various public benefits cases. He continued his legal career at the private law firm of Cox, Gage, and Sasser, focusing on Social Security disability cases. Later, he joined McGraw-Hill Education in New York as a Vice President of the National Urban Markets unit and was promoted to Senior Vice President, leading the National Urban Markets team.
