Damion is a lifelong resident of Wake County, and currently lives in Holly Springs with his wife, Bene, and their 3 children. He graduated from William G. Enloe High School and later earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from North Carolina Central University and a law degree from the Norman A. Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University.

Damion has experience working with the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted a variety of criminal charges in district court. He is also a founding partner of his own law firm, McCullers & Whitaker, PLLC.

- District Court judges hear civil, criminal, and juvenile cases. Civil cases dealing with divorce, child custody, and child support are heard in District Court. 
- Under the District Court, the magistrate can try small claims cases ($10,000 or less), landlord eviction cases, and suits for recovery of personal property. A magistrate is an independent judicial officer, recognized by the North Carolina Constitution as an officer of the district court.
