Rob received a bachelor's degree in business administration and management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a law degree from the University of Miami School of Law. He lives in Asheboro, NC.

Rob worked as an assistant attorney general for the North Carolina Department of Justice prior to his election as district court judge. He also worked as an assistant attorney for Judicial District 19B and an attorney for Crumley Roberts, LLP. He previously served in the US Coast Guard from 1981 to 2002.

Rob Wilkins currently serves as a district court judge in Judicial District 19B. He was elected in 2008 and has served four terms.

- District Court judges hear civil, criminal, and juvenile cases. Civil cases dealing with divorce, child custody, and child support are heard in District Court. 
- Under the District Court, the magistrate can try small claims cases ($10,000 or less), landlord eviction cases, and suits for recovery of personal property. A magistrate is an independent judicial officer, recognized by the North Carolina Constitution as an officer of the district court. 
- District Court Judges are elected for a four-year term. Elections are partisan.
