Monica is originally from Miami, Florida. She earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of North Carolina Asheville and her law degree from Campbell University. Monica has three children.

Monica currently works as an attorney and runs her own firm, Gillett Law Office. She has previously worked as an assistant district attorney.
