Annette is from Kinston, North Carolina and attended Kinston High School. She earned an associate's degree from Pitt Community College, a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from North Carolina Wesleyan College and a law degree from North Carolina Central University. Annette is married and has two sons.

Prior to becoming a judge, Annette worked in private practice at several different law firms. 

Annette W. Turik is currently District Court Judge for Judicial District 9. She was appointed in 2018 to fill a vacancy and was reelected to serve her first full term in 2020.

As a paralegal at Cranfill, Sumner & Hertzog, Annette researched and drafted legal documents, organized court filings, and maintained information on the status and deadlines of ongoing cases.

As a legal associate at Wallace, Morris & Barwick, Annette researched and drafted legal documents, and helped clients pursue personal injury claims and negotiate settlements with individuals and companies.

As a partner at Wooten & Turik, Annette managed key client relationships, pursued new clients, mentors junior lawyers, oversaw certain areas of legal practice, and provided legal counsel on behalf of clients.

- District Court judges hear civil, criminal, and juvenile cases. Civil cases dealing with divorce, child custody, and child support are heard in District Court. 
- Under the District Court, the magistrate can try small claims cases ($10,000 or less), landlord eviction cases, and suits for recovery of personal property. A magistrate is an independent judicial officer, recognized by the North Carolina Constitution as an officer of the district court. 
- District Court Judges are elected for a four-year term. Elections are partisan.
