Chad grew up in Vanceboro and graduated from West Craven High School. He has been involved with the Fire Department Board of Directors, Vanceboro Masonic Lodge, Vanceboro Christian Help Center, Community Resource Council at Craven Correctional Institution, Down East Rural Planning Organization, Craven County Recreation Advisory Board, and the Vanceboro Medical Center Board. He is married with two children, coaches youth sports and is a member of The Vanceboro Christian Church.

Chad has worked for his family's business, Kite’s Supermarket on Main Street in Vanceboro.

Chad E. Braxton currently serves as the Mayor in the Town of Vanceboro. He was first elected in 2007 and is serving his fourth term. He previously served on the Vanceboro Board of Aldermen from 2003 to 2007.
