Mark is from Raleigh and attended Sanderson High School. He holds both a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in human factors engineering from North Carolina State University. Mark is a former volunteer coach for small business farmers. 

Mark is the owner and CEO of Markus Group Limited. He previously worked as director of sales and marketing at KX Industries. He also held various management positions at FMC Corporation and worked as a senior scientist at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. Mark also served in the US Marine Corps for 6 years. He is a former president of the Gardeners of Wake County.
