North Carolina

John resides in Stanley with his wife. He attended Middle Tennessee State University.

John began his career in the corrugated converting industry in 1978, holding various positions including layout and design specialist, material management specialist, production manager, CEO and sales manager. In 2003, he became the vice president of Business Development for Defense Technologies Inc., a defense contractor. Later, he took on the role of vice president of Business Development for NextWave Technologies, working with advanced technologies in various sectors.

John A. Torbett is currently a state representative serving District 108. He was elected in 2010, and is serving his seventh term. He is the chairman of the Appropriations, Education Committee, the Education K-12 Committee, and the House Select Committee on Education Reform. He is the vice chairman of the Appropriations Committee, the Redistricting Committee, and the Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House Committee. He was previously a Gaston County Commissioner. He was elected in 2002 and served until 2010 for 2 terms.
