Susan was born in Alabama and raised in North Carolina She holds both a bachelor's degree in English Literature and a master's degree in fine arts from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. She is married to her husband, Bob with whom she 2 daughters and 2 grandsons.
