Mo has a bachelor's degree in political science and economics and a law degree from Duke University. He is married and has two adult children. 

Mo served as the executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation from 2016 to 2023. Previously, he has worked for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as general counsel, chief operating officer, and deputy superintendent. Mo has also worked as a lawyer in private practice and in two United States judicial clerkships.
