Addison was raised in a Christian family in Davidson County. He attended the University of North Carolina-Charlotte on a Baptist scholarship, where he met his wife, Rachel, through the YoungLife Ministry. They live in Arcadia with their daughter.

Addison previously worked for current U.S. Senator Ted Budd as a constituent liaison.
