Marcus received his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from UNC Chapel Hill. He received is law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School.

Marcus is an Attorney. Most recently, he has practiced as a private attorney in his own law firm. Previously, he has worked in numerous legal roles, including as an assistant public defender and an executive director of a legal services organization.

Marcus ran for Governor in 1992 but did not win. Marcus ran for US Senate in 2008 but did not win. Marcus ran for NC Attorney General in 2016. He received 47% of the vote and was not elected. He has held multiple Chair positions for the local Democratic Party in NC.

Michael R. 'Mike' Morgan is a native of North Carolina and a graduate of Duke University and North Carolina Central University School of Law. He is married to his wife, Audrey, and has a daughter named Marissa. 

Mike Morgan has served in the North Carolina judiciary for over three decades, including as a Wake County District Court Judge, a Superior Court Judge, and an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina. He was first appointed as a judge by former Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. and has been elected to various judgeships, culminating in his election as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 2016.
