Ty is from Milford, Ohio. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in economics from Fordham University, and a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University. He lives with his wife Laura and their son.

Ty currently works as co-founder of the real estate firm Pendleton Properties, LLC. and as an economics professor at the University of Cincinnati. He previously worked at UBS, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, and as an assistant vice president at Fort Washington Investment Advisors, Inc. Ty served as a captain in the United States Marine Corps from 2011 to 2016.
