Heather earned her associate's degree from Bellevue College and her bachelor's degree from University of Washington (Bothell). 

Heather is a nurse in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at Harborview Medical Center and serves on the King County Board of Health. She has also been a C\charge and staff nurse in a level one trauma center and teaching institution, and she is a former chair of a Unit Practice Council and a former member of the Nursing Practice Council.
