Lauren lives in Shoreline. She earned a bachelor's degree in ethnic studies from Brown University. She is a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Lauren directed school and campus-based mental health and suicide prevention programs at Forefront and helped to found the Washington Recovery Alliance, where she serves as the executive director.
