Dennis is the mayor of Drexel. He has served in this role since April 2022. He previously worked as the head custodian at Heritage Middle School for six years. Before that, he worked in the custodial staff at Salem Elementary and Draughn High and was the head custodian at Drexel Elementary for over five years. Earlier in his career, he spent five years as the warehouse manager at Garden Ridge in Statesville and also worked in warehouses at Rent-a-Center and Aden in Hildebran. In addition, he has worked as a referee for basketball, baseball, and softball for more than twenty years.

Dennis is currently the mayor of Drexel. He was elected to the office of alderman in the town of Drexel in 2014 and has served as the mayor since April 2022.
