Edward (Scooter) Basnight

Edward is the sheriff of Chowan County. He works at the Chowan County Sheriff's Office, where he has been since 2002. He previously worked as a patrol officer for the Edenton Police Department until April 1999 and as a community and patrol officer for the Elizabeth City Police Department.

Edward is the Sheriff at the Chowan County Sheriff's Office. He works there, where he has served since August 2020. He previously worked as chief deputy, lieutenant, and sergeant at the Chowan County Sheriff's Office for 17 years; as a community and patrol officer at the Elizabeth City Police Department; and as a patrol officer at the Edenton Police Department.

Edward (Scooter) Basnight is currently the sheriff of Chowan County. He was appointed to the position in August 2020 following the retirement of his predecessor. He was elected in November 2022 and is serving his first term.

Edward "Scooter" Basnight was born the son of a U. S. Air Force service member stationed in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone and was raised in Edenton after returning to the contiguous United States. He has an advanced law enforcement certificate from Martin Community College.
