Vernon J. Jones is running for Georgia US Representative Runoff, District 10, Republican Primary.

Political background

Vernon Jones began his political career as a Georgia Representative representing House District 57. He was elected in 1992 and served four terms. In 2000, he ran and won the election for DeKalb County Chief Executive Office and served two terms until 2008 due to term limits. In 2017, he was elected as a Georgia Representative representing House District 91. He served two terms and announced he would resign at the end of 2020, citing the attacks he and his family received from the Democratic Party after endorsing President Donald Trump. He later reversed his resignation but still lost the election in 2020. On January 6, 2021, Vernon Jones officially switched from the Democratic Party, to the Republican Party. In 2012 he also lost a race for House District 94 for the State House, and in 2014, he lost a race for Georgia's 4th Congressional District and for DeKalb sheriff. Most recently, he resigned from the 2022 Governor's race in Georgia.
