Floyd is from Milledgeville, Georgia. He attended Gupton Jones College where he earned an Associate of Science in Funeral Service, Tuskegee University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction, and Florida Institute of Technology where he earned a Master of Science in Contract and Procurement Management. Floyd also graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College as well as the National War College. Floyd lives with his wife Nathalie Huffman Griffin in Millidgeville.

Professional background

Floyd was the President and CEO of Slater’s Funeral Home in Milledgeville before his recent retirement in 2017. Prior to this role, Floyd was a member of the armed forces, where he served as a helicopter pilot, instructor pilot, and commander of a construction engineering company. Floyd is a Vietnam veteran. During his military career, he was an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Wake Forest University and the ROTC director at Winston-Salem State University. In 1990, Griffin finished his esteemed military career and retired as a Colonel.

Political background

Floyd Griffin served as a State Senator for the Georgia Senate from 1994 to 1998. He represented the 25th district. He then ran for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia in 1998 and did not win. Most recently, Floyd served as the mayor of Millidgeville, Georgia from 2002 to 2006.
