Tanya is originally from Seattle. She has a bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Washington. She lives in Rainier Beach.

Tanya used to work on the assignment desk and be a teleprompter operator for KING 5, a local news outlet. She also managed the Louisa Hotel, which includes affordable apartments and shops.

Tanya Woo's campaign for city council is her first entry into politics.
