Russell graduated from Naches Valley High School. He then went on to earn his bachelor's degree in university studies with a minor in business, half a minor in Spanish, and half a minor in economics from Brigham Young University (BYU) - Idaho. He lives with his wife Emily and their daughter Mirian.

Russell has worked for about 11 years as the Vice President of S.A. Carlson, Inc. He's also worked as an account exec at Young Electric Sign Company.

Russell Carlson is currently a city council member. He was first elected in 2016 and is serving his second term.
