Candace Taylor Heaton graduated from Jackson County Comprehensive High School and is currently enrolled in the University of North Georgia with a focus in Political Science. She is a wife and a mother to two sons.

Candace Taylor Heaton has experience as an Office Manager at the Safety Research Institute.


Candace Taylor Heaton is currently the Tax Commissioner in Jackson County and was elected to this position in 2016. She has served two terms in this position. 

Said, "Change is scary and there’s too much uncertainty in the world today to get rid of experience that this office already has."

In her time as Tax Commissioner, claims she has implemented a new motor vehicle software statewide, has started accepting all major credit cards, has online services for motor vehicles, and has a frequently updated property tax website for taxpayers to check or pay online property taxes.

Said, "I have an open door policy and I will answer any question at anytime of the day that you need."

Said, "In my first year in office, I collected over 2 million dollars in delinquent inventory tax from a company that was leaving the county. In my capacity as Tax Commissioner, I was able to padlock their doors, shut down their business, and the delinquent taxes were paid the very next day."

Said, "We have... brought payment plans to struggling citizens to get their property taxes paid in a timely manner and we're currently 99.2% paid for property taxes for years 2018 and before."

Tax Commissioners are elected at the county level, and their job is to oversee most phases of the taxing process. These responsibilities include billing, collecting, processing, and distributing taxes. They are generally in charge of property taxes, solid waste fees, public utilities, and renewing your vehicle tag. Notably, the Tax Commissioner does not determine how much taxes you pay. Because taxes are a source of revenue for counties, the tax commissioners’ work is ultimately beneficial to individual cities, education, transportation, and other local services. In addition to administering tax laws, the department is responsible for enforcing laws and  regulations pertaining to the control of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products in Georgia as well as motor vehicle license plate and title administration.
