Freddie Powell Sims is a State Senator for Georgia District 12. She was elected to this position in 2008 and she has served 8 terms in this role. Previously, she served two terms as a State House Representative from 2004 to 2008. She is Secretary of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth and a member of the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Appropriations, Interstate Cooperation, and Natural Resources and the Environment committees.

Freddie is a retired middle school principal and doctor of educational leadership.

Freddie received a bachelor’s degree from Fort Valley State University, a Master’s degree from Georgia State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Sarasota. She also has a degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia. Freddie is married to Norman Sims and they have three daughters together. She is a Baptist.
