Michael Rhett has been serving in the Georgia State Senate 2014, representing a portion of Cobb County. He is a member of several Senate committees, including the Higher Education Committee, Finance Committee, Judiciary Committee, Regulated Industries Committee, Voting Redistricting Committee, and Veterans, Military and Homeland Security Committee.

Prior to his political career, Michael was a Vocational, Educational, and Instructional Coordinator at Jefferson Place and City of Refuge. Additionally, he is a retired educator from the State of Georgia and a retired Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force. As part of his 25+ years of enlisted service, he has received the United States Air Force Meritorious Service Medal.

Michael was born and raised in public housing in Harlem, New York City, and attended Bishop Dubois Catholic High School. He has an Associate Degree in Administrative Management from the Community College of the United States Air Force, a Bachelors Degree in Communications from the University of Albany, Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Oklahoma, a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University, and a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from University of Georgia Athens. He is a member of Turner Chapel AME Church in Marietta, Georgia.
