Jefferson is married to his wife Katye and has a son, Jay. They are members of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Raleigh.

Professional background

Jefferson has served as a judge on various different courts since 2015. Before his judicial appointment, Jefferson was a prosecutor with the Wake County District Attorney's Office. He is a veteran and serves as a captain and judge advocate general (JAG) officer in the North Carolina Army National Guard. Jefferson has also worked as a charter fisherman on the North Carolina coast.

Jefferson was elected as a judge to the North Carolina Court of Appeals in 2020. Previously, he was appointed as a District Court Judge in Wake County by Governor McCrory in 2015. He was elected to serve a full term in this position in 2016.
