Miriam was born in Eastern Europe but was raised in the Bronx. She earned her bachelor's degree in English literature and pre-med studies from New York University and her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She lives with her husband in Scarsdale and is a mother and grandmother. 

Miriam works as a pediatrician, as a pediatric consultant for school districts in Bronx and Westchester counties, and as an assistant professor of pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She previously served as a village mayor.

Miriam Levitt Flisser previously served as mayor of Scardsale, New York for 1 term from 2011 to 2013. She also previously ran for US representative for Congressional District 16 in 2022, but she did not win.
