Randy is from Hazen, North Dakota, and graduated from Hazen High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from North Dakota State University. He and his wife, Bethanie live in Bismarck and attend Peace Lutheran Church near Hazen.

Randy Christmann currently serves as the chair of the North Dakota Public Service Commission. He was elected to this position in 2012. He previously served in the North Dakota Senate from 1995 to 2012.

Randy Christmann is the current Chair of the North Dakota Public Service Commission, having been elected to the commission in 2012. He previously served in the North Dakota Senate from 1994 to 2012, including as Assistant Majority Leader. Christmann has also been a board member for the West River Telecommunications Cooperative and is the Vice-President of the North Dakota Lignite Research Council.
