Eric resides in Fort Bend County. He earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a master's degree in juvenile forensic psychology from Prairie View A&M University. He and his wife, Jacqueline, have a daughter and honor the memory of their son, Patrick.

Eric previously served with the Houston Police Department, where he worked in various roles including background investigator, community liaison, and on Mayor Turner's protection detail.
