Judge Maples was born and raised in LaFayette, and is the son of the late Ralph and Evelyn Maples. He has been married for fifty years to Doris Brown Maples and they have three children: Angela, Ken Jr. (wife, Angie and daughter, Ella), and Phil (wife, Emily). He is a lifelong resident of LaFayette and graduated from LaFayette High School.

Kenneth is a construction company owner. He established Kenneth Maples & Sons Construction Company in 1996, specializing in new home construction, remodeling, and home additions. Before starting his own business, he spent twenty-seven years in the carpet industry, where he held roles including plant manager, head of research and product development, director of sales and marketing, and vice president of operations.
