Ja'Quez Taylor is from Thomasville, North Carolina, and was raised in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. He holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies with a concentration in applied cultural thoughts from North Carolina A&T State University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction. He is the youngest elected school board chair in North Carolina public schools. He enjoys traveling, reading, and fashion.

Ja'Quez is an educator and educational leader. He is currently the Assistant Director of TRIO Upward Bound at North Carolina Central University. He began his career as a teacher and went on to establish a successful tutoring organization in Thomasville, NC, where he served as CEO and Director of Tutoring and School Partnerships. He has also taught elementary and middle school students in North Carolina, Tulsa, OK, and Dallas, TX. Later, he became an Impact Manager/Coach at an education nonprofit in Miami-Dade County Public Schools, where he supported students, educators, district leaders, and schools through educational near-peer interventions, mentorship, and curriculum instruction. Throughout his career, Ja'Quez has held various roles, including Program Director, Director of Elementary Programs, and K-12 Education Consultant.

Ja'Quez is currently a member of the Thomasville City Schools Board of Education. He was most recently elected for a 4-year term in 2023, a historical moment for Thomasville as this is the first time in history where the citizens elected their first school board members.

Believes a supportive school community without oppressive barriers is crucial for underserved students.
