Rick Murillo's campaign for Fayetteville City Council Member, District 5 is his first entry into politics. He filed for the seat on July 16, 2025, but dropped out on August 14, 2025, after the Cumberland Board of Elections determined that he had pleaded guilty to a felony in South Carolina. Murillo maintains that he is not a felon and believes he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor. He previously ran for the same office in 2023 but did not win.
