Mildred previously served on the Greenville City Council from 1987 to 2009 and was Mayor Pro Tem three times. She also served on the Pitt County Board of Elections from 2012 to 2018.

Supports using school social workers and psychologists for intervention and problem-solving instead of suspensions.

Supports diversity training for all Pitt County School staff, including resource officers.

Supports requiring parents to participate in youth summits addressing bullying and drug prevention.
