Kim Plemmons a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a Reynolds High School graduate, Plemmons has lived in the Emma district of the Erwin community for 44 years with her husband, Chip. She is a parent of two Erwin High School graduates and a grandmother to two. Her family remains deeply involved in the district; her daughter-in-law works at North Buncombe, and her son coaches baseball.

Plemmons’ professional career includes a long tenure in the financial sector, having retired as a Senior Vice President from Wells Fargo in 2018. Following her retirement, she transitioned back into education as a substitute teacher to maintain a direct connection with the classroom environment. Her professional experience is complemented by her service on several community boards, including the Buncombe County Schools Foundation and the Mountain Child Advocacy Center.

Plemmons currently serves on the Buncombe County Board of Education and is seeking re-election to continue her advocacy for students, teachers, and staff. Her political involvement in the school system spans over forty years, during which she has served in numerous advisory and leadership roles, including PTO President at Emma Elementary School and member of the Erwin Middle School Advisory Council. She has received endorsements from organizations such as the Buncombe County Association of Educators (BCAE) and various retired educators and local leaders.

She supports policies that provide a "safe and great learning experience" and aims to make decisions based on the collective needs of students and teachers rather than outside political pressure.
