E. T. Mitchell is originally from south Georgia. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of the South. She lives in. Trent Woods and has one son.

ET is a retired naval intelligence officer. She previously worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency and served almost ten years on active duty. She also worked for the federal government and was recalled to active duty during the first Iraq War. 

E. T. served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy for two decades.

E. T. is currently a Craven County commissioner. She was first elected to the Craven County Board of Commissioners in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. She also served on the New Bern Board of Aldermen from 2016 to 2018.
