Mears Pitt, a 1992 graduate of Virginia Episcopal School, also attended Appalachian State University. He is the fourth-generation owner of Ace Hardware, a lifetime resident of Tarboro, and has served on several local boards, including Tarboro Community Outreach and as president of the Tarboro Swim Club.

Mears is the fourth-generation owner of Ace Hardware in Tarboro. 

Mears is currently a member of the Tarboro Town Council, representing Ward 5. He was appointed in June 2025 to fill the unexpired term of John Jenkins and will serve until the November 2025 municipal elections.
